About the Park
World renowned Cathedral Grove is an ancient Old Growth Douglas Fir forest on Vancouver Island. Visitors can stroll on easy access networks of trails under the shadow of the ancient forest trees, some of the Douglas Firs are over 800 years old. On the south side of the park you will find the largest Douglas Fir measuring 9 meters in circumference. The trails continue on across to the north side of the highway into a grove of ancient Western Red cedar standing watch over nearby Cameron Lake.

📸 April 2023
ℹ️ Cathedral Grove, located in MacMillan Provincial Park. This park is one of the most accessible stands of giant Douglas fir old-growth trees on Vancouver Island.
You can stroll through some lovely boardwalk trails under the shadow of towering ancient Douglas fir trees, some more than 800 years old
Indigenous cultures have a long history of stewarding the land in Cathedral Grove. These trees provided indigenous people including the K’ómoks, Tseshaht, and Te’mexw, with raw materials to support their shelter, transportation, clothing, and tools.

A few cell phone photos of Cathedral Grove within MacMillan Provincial Park on Vancouver Island. Such an amazing place.
In a few days I'll be headed off to another place with REALLY big trees. I've been told will put these to shame. Don't know about that, but will be fun to see.

Yesterday we explored both sides of Cathedral Grove within MacMillan Provincial Park on Vancouver Island. Truly a must-see if you come to the island. The trees are magnificent!
But unless you want to see several hundred other people who also want to see this, come early in the morning to beat the crowds (and get the best light).
Check out my next post with some cell phone photos of the park.

Meet the giants...
Jahrhundert eigentlich alles so weltgeschichtlich passierte: Es fanden vier Kreuzzüge in diesem Jahrhundert statt.
