About the Park

The park contains 6 kilometres of walking trails which take you from the campground and the Little Qualicum Falls day-use area along the Little Qualicum River. There is also a small loop departing from the covered Picnic Shelter for those who are only interested in the upper and lower falls. It takes less walking time and still has great views of the cascading falls and gorge.

There is a covered picnic shelter in the day-use area. It is a non-reservable shelter and it has a large capacity. There are no campfires allowed in the day-use area but visitors are welcome to bring their own propane barbecues or briquette hibachis. Remember to remove all personal garbage and refuse from the park when finished using the facilities, in order to preserve the natural beauty of the park and protect the wildlife. Picnicking is also available at Cameron Lake and Beaufort day use areas.

There is a 94 site non-serviced campground complete with forested sites, drinking water, flush toilets and an adventure playground in this park. There is an upper and a lower campground which provide a range of non-serviced site conditions including open sunny sites, forested sites and riverside sites. Campsite reservations are accepted and some first-come first-serve sites are also available.

Fires

Campfires are allowed in designated fire rings provided that a fire ban is not in effect. Firewood is available for purchase in the park. To preserve vegetation and ground cover, please do not gather firewood from the area around your campsite or elsewhere in the park (this is a ticketable offence under the Park Act). Dead wood is an important habitat element for many plants and animals and it adds organic matter to the soil. It is illegal to burn wood or material from the forest because it is destructive and damages the protected ecosystems within the park.

Location

One of the more spectacular parks on Vancouver Island, Little Qualicum Falls offers majestic old-growth and second growth forests between the waterfalls of the Little Qualicum River and the entire southern shore of Cameron Lake. It provides an excellent base camp for exploring Cathedral Grove at MacMillan Provincial Park as well as opportunities to enjoy the Little Qualicum River.
