About the Park
Jedediah Island, located between Lasqueti and Texada islands in the Strait of Georgia off central Vancouver Island, has long been a popular destination for recreational boaters and kayakers. It is the largest and most diverse of a chain of more than 30 islands and rocky islets located north and west of Lasqueti Island. The interior of Jedediah is comprised of forest ecosystems where you will see a variety of mature tree species, including Douglas fir and arbutus, intermingled with rocky outcrops. In several areas evidence of previous human settlements are evident. A rich marine environment encircles Jedediah Island, which offers secluded bays and coves for safer harbour.

This afternoon, I had the pleasure of speaking in the House about the incredible work that the arrowsmithsar does for our community. Their team of 42 active members have contributed over 8650 hours of service, and they ensure that when someone is in need of life-saving emergency services, they are there to answer the call. I am grateful for all of the work that they do for people in the Oceanside community, as well as on Jedediah Island and Lasqueti Island 💪

Love #jedediahisland so much! And deer ferns and #oldgrowthforests and stumps with #salal ... so much to love. I have often wondered what might survive if my farm was abandoned and this old old #homestead provides some clues: #eucalyptus #apple and #pear trees and #mint and #oregano of course 😉 🤣

When we went to Jedediah Island at the very beginning of our Vancouver Island loop, we had an anchorage to ourselves. It was the first stern tie spot of the trip, backing Gemini up until we were just feet from the rocky cliffs felt foreign but once settled in, we sat in the cockpit and enjoyed the calm, peaceful anchorage.
Jedediah was the first place we found mushrooms to forage (morels nonetheless!) and we scored prawns just a dinghy ride away. We hiked and spotted the resident wild sheep, trudged through boggy meadows to arrive at the abandoned homestead once inhabited by a family. We walked through the old fruit orchards and made up stories about the adventures the residents must’ve had on this magical piece of land.
As we finished our last weeks in the Gulf Islands, we were excited to return to this island, exploring a different anchorage this time. The magic returned just the same, a feeling of coming home - although we take our home wherever we go.
As we hiked outside ver 2.5 miles of the island, we struggled to pin exactly what made this island special. When the trail disappeared, we followed sheep trails, greeting them as we passed through. We found our first reishi mushroom (bigger than my face!) and foraged for wild spearmint that covered the meadow near our anchorage.
Upon returning to Gemini, Jack felt this was a perfect place to scatter a little of his Granny & Pap-Pap’s ashes, so they too could experience this special island. We climbed to the rocky cliff towering above where we had set the hook and found a nice spot overlooking the straits to leave their ashes along with one of many heart rocks we’ve collected from our travels.
We still can’t pinpoint exactly what it is that makes Jedediah Island such a mystical place, but we will remember our time here for years to come.
