Tour de Rathtrevor in Support of Tour de Rock: A Cycling Success

At Rathtrevor Beach, on Tuesday, August 6th, special guests arrived in the park for the Jerry's Rangers program of the day.  The special guest was Cpl. Jesse Foreman and his partner George who were arriving to help with a bike safety program and bike rodeo for the kids camping in the park.  What he didn't know was the the campers, friends and RLC Park Services staff at Rathtrevor Beach Provincial Park had a surprise for him.  Over the past week, they had been determined to collectively cycle around the outer loop of the campground 625 times...for a total of 1000km.  Why?  Because they knew Cpl. Jesse Foreman was a member of Cops for Cancer's Tour de Rock team; a group of police officers from across Vancouver Island setting out to ride 1000km on the island in late September to fundraise to help children with cancer and for cancer research.  So everybody at Rathtrevor pitched in and the total kms ridden was well over the goal of 1000km as everyone cycled for 875 loops; 1400km!  Then the big surprise for Jesse was that at the same time as the riding was happening, donations were being collected with a goal of $1000.  When that total was arrived at, it got even better.  The owner of RLC Park Services, Rick Carswell, matched the donations.  Jesse was presented with $2000 toward his fundraising goal of $25,000! Go Jesse Go!

We can't wait to follow Jesse on his ride (along with all the other great participants) and we had so much fun doing the Tour de Rathtrevor that we think we might make it an annual activity!
