How can I obtain a campsite in my favourite Park during the busy summer months?

Provincial Parks

Please make a reservation with Discover Camping or 1-800-689-9025 up to 3 months in advance beginning March 15. Reservations are accepted for arrivals from mid-May to early September. Most parks will also offer first come first serve campsites but these tend to fill up on weekends. Please check the “FCFS Expected Availability” Calendar on the Discover Camping website for more information.


Horne Lake

Please make a reservation by clicking on the "Reserve Now" button on the Horne Lake page starting March 1st. Reservations accepted for arrival anytime until September 30th of the same year. With the exception of some overflow sites, all sites can be reserved.

I am having trouble reserving a Provincial Park campsite today or tomorrow?

In most parks you can only reserve up to 2 days prior to your desired arrival date. Please visit the park to find out if there are any first come first serve campsites available.

The exceptions are the Provincial Parks with Gatehouses (Goldstream, Gordon Bay, Rathtrevor Beach and Miracle Beach). Between mid-June and early September you can reserve up to 8:00 pm on desired day of arrival. Please check for further information.

When is check in time?

Provincial Parks

Please check in after 1:00 pm and before 11:00 pm when gates close for the evening. If you have a reservation and will be delayed beyond 11:00 am of the morning after your scheduled day of arrival, you must contact the park in order to avoid losing your reservation.


Horne Lake

Please check in after 2:00 pm and before 11:00 pm when gates close for the evening.

When is check out time?

Please vacate the site no later than 11:00 am. We appreciate that you check out on time as staff must prepare the campsite for the next occupants. Please leave your site clean. Thank you!

How many campers can I have on my site?

Provincial Parks

Up to 8 people may occupy 1 site; however, depending on the make-up of the occupants, 1 or 2 permits (camping fees) may be required. One permit (camping fee) allows up to 4 adults, 4 children and 1 vehicle – a second vehicle and/or camping party may occupy the campsite for an extra fee at the discretion of the Park Manager. Horne Lake

Maximum of eight (8) people per campsite, no more than four (4) of whom can be adults, an adult being 18 years of age or over. Children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. One vehicle with trailer or towed vehicle permitted per campsite. No more than one RV per campsite. Second vehicle (non-RV) may be permitted on the same site for an additional nightly charge of 50% of campsite fee.

May I have an extra vehicle in my camp site?

Yes, the overnight fee for an extra vehicle (non RV) is half the Park camping fee up to a maximum of $12.00 per night.


Horne Lake

Yes, a second vehicle (non-RV) may be permitted on the same site for an additional nightly charge of half the campsite fee.

Can I put an extra tent on my campsite?

You may put an extra tent on your campsite if all your camping equipment and vehicles fit within the parameters of your site. Please do not set up tents off the campsite pad and in the forest. You will be asked to move the tent.

Are there hookups/electrical in the campsites?

This service is not available in the Vancouver Island parks we manage at this time.

What time can I use a generator in the park?

Provincial Parks

You can operate a generator from 9:00 am to 11:00 am and 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.


Horne Lake

Generator run time is limited to four hours per day maximum between the hours 10 am to 5 pm.    

Are group sites available for special events or family/friend camping trips and when can I book them?

Provincial Parks

Yes, you can reserve a group site in some parks (French Beach, Goldstream, Cowichan River, Rathtrevor Beach, Taylor Arm (Sproat Lake), Miracle Beach, Loveland Bay and Strathcona) for groups of 15 or more campers. Reservations can be made up to one year in advance by contacting Discover Camping online at or by phone at 1-800-689-9025.


Horne Lake

Group sites are available for groups of 15 or more campers. Reservations can be made starting March 1st by calling our office at 250-248-0500.

Can I bring my dog/pet to the park?

Provincial Parks

Yes pets are welcome but must be kept on a leash and under control while visiting the park. Pets are not allowed on the beach or in the picnic areas. Please clean up after your pets.


Horne Lake

Pets must be leashed and under control at all times when in the Park including at individual campsites. No electric dog restraints are permitted in lieu of a leash. Owners are expected to clean up after their pets.

If I plan to arrive late or leave early will I be able to arrive or leave the park due to the gate closure from 11 pm to 7 am?

Please notify the park if you need to arrive late or leave early and we can make arrangements or advise you accordingly.

Do you offer programs for children in the park?

Yes, we offer programs at Goldstream, Rathtrevor Beach and Miracle Beach primarily during the summer season. As well, we have Nature Houses located in Goldstream Park (year round), Rathtrevor Beach and Miracle Beach (during the summer season). Horne Lake

Can I purchase firewood in the park?

Firewood can be purchased from Park staff at a cost of $7.00 per bundle (bin) or $18.00 per 3 bundles (bins) or at the Gatehouse (if applicable). Staff will sell firewood during collection shifts while circulating the park.

Please burn only firewood you have brought with you or purchased from us. Removing trees and branches from the forest floor is a violation and may result in a fine and/or eviction.

Are showers available?

Showers are available in the following parks on Vancouver Island: Goldstream, Gordon Bay, Rathtrevor Beach, Sproat Lake, and Miracle Beach.

Will my cell phone work in the park and is there WIFI available?

Cell reception varies between parks. Generally, the parks which are close to cities or towns will most likely have cell coverage. Most isolated parks have sporadic coverage or none at all. WIFI is not currently available in the Parks we manage.
